COLLAGE

The FRACCIONAMIENTO series of collages was made when I first moved to Mazatlan, Mexico full time. They reflect my experiences of navigating through a new city feeling a little disoriented by the vibrant color, noise and activity throughout the day.

I photographed buildings and street scenes which I then cut and glued onto small wood panels. The areas of negative space were filled with shades of gouache paint further connecting sight lines with color. I was interested in how collage can emulate memory and re-create a fragmented version of a time/space linear walk.
