Fracc.
tourist, part-time resident,
distracted by so much color
side by side
too much to see all at once
here but not
from
here
finding landmarks,
to find my way
home
Fracc.
This series of collages was made in response to the first few months of being ‘full-time’ in Mazatlan. They reflect my feelings of disorientation navigating through a new city influenced by all the sights and sounds. They reflect my experiences of navigating through a new city feeling a little disoriented by the vibrant color, noise and activity throughout the day.
I photographed buildings and street scenes then printed, cut and glued them onto small wood panels. The areas of negative space were filled with local color using gouache paint further connecting sight lines with colour. They are literally pieced together snapshots of the places I passed on my walks but like memory they are full of gaps and jumbled timelines.
